Herman Müntzing is an experimental and improvising musician and composer from Malmö, Sweden, who prefers to treat and mistreat different kinds of acoustic and electric objects whenever and wherever it is appropriate. His musical world embraces sounds produced by “normal” musical instruments as well as short-circuit video-mixers, children toys, found objects and slowly rolling ping-pong balls. He approache chance mistakes and cunfusion with interest and joy, letting it be a profound part of his work.
Riles Walsh
Object.defineProperty</self> is a staged chamber opera for one singer, electronics, projection, and AVA (Autonomous Vocal Apparatus)—a virtual instrument created entirely from samples of the performer’s own voice. Through the rituals of remote work, corporate language, and digital mediation, the work explores how convenience, optimization, and perpetual connectivity can erode the fragile boundary between a person and the language through which they are known.

Developed through an iterative process of rehearsal, recording, and recomposition, the work crosses the boundary between live performance and its documentation. Spoken fragments, guided improvisations, and vocal gestures collected throughout the collaborative process are transformed into AVA’s musical vocabulary, allowing earlier rehearsals to reappear as active participants in the performance itself. Rather than functioning only as accompaniment, the electronic and projected media create a continually shifting dialogue between memory, authorship, and presence.
Title of lecture:
The Unreal Series: My Efforts to Mess with TimeThe composer will talk about his series of electroacoustic pieces for solo instrument and electronics and the collaborative process of creating the electronics.
Riles Walsh is an American composer and sound artist based in Malmö, Sweden. His artistic practice explores relationships between live performance, recorded sound, electronic media, and musical perception, with a particular focus on opera, music theatre, and electroacoustic composition. Through collaborative processes, his work investigates how mediated sound can alter one’s perception of time, memory, and the boundaries between live and recorded sound.
His multimedia chamber opera The East Complex premiered at Opera Gent in 2023, following a two-year international collaborative development process. His subsequent multimedia work Guds gyllene ögon was developed with support from Lund University and the Inter Arts Center and combines voices, cello, electronics, and video. His ongoing UnrealSeries explores the reintegration of recorded rehearsal and performance materials into live musical situations, creating asynchronous encounters between performers and their own musical past.
Walsh holds a Master of Arts (MA) of Music from the Royal Conservatory of Ghent, where he graduated with great distinction, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Composition and Technology from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. His music has been written for and performed by chamber ensembles, vocal ensembles, and interdisciplinary collaborators in Europe and the United States. His broader professional practice encompasses composition, sound design, conducting, artistic production, teaching, and the organization of contemporary music projects.
